On June 20, 1792 five commissioners were appointed to pick a capital for the new state, and Frankfort won partly on an offer that included Andrew Holmes' log house for seven years and three thousand dollars in gold. Gideon Shryock designed the Old Capitol in Greek Revival in 1829 and it served from 1830 to 1910. Daniel Boone and his wife were reinterred at Frankfort Cemetery, established 1844. Buffalo Trace has been distilling here since 1792, the same year as the capital decision.
