A horse-country town with traditional plant-medicine and equine-wellness culture.
Nicholasville Road traffic and a large university campus keep the middle of town moving well past dusk. A remote session asks nothing of your commute, only a chair and a closed door. Attunement materials arrive as digital files you keep permanently, which many people find useful when the week refuses to slow down.
Frontiersmen under William McConnell named this place in June 1775, having just heard that militia and British regulars had exchanged fire at Lexington in Massachusetts that April. The name was a political statement before the town was a town. It sits in the Bluegrass and calls itself the horse capital of the world on the strength of the farms around it; Keeneland opened in 1936 and holds the largest thoroughbred auction house anywhere, having sold nineteen Kentucky Derby winners. In 1958 Lexington enacted the first urban growth boundary in the United States, drawing a line around itself specifically so the horse farms would not be built over.
