On the shores of Lake Cumberland and at the edge of the Daniel Boone National Forest, Somerset offers wide water and woodland quiet that support restful, holistic living.
Boat builders and marina crews work a summer that runs flat out and a winter that goes very still. Remote Reiki suits both halves of that year, since a session needs no travel and no particular season. Blends are mixed to order in Michigan and posted, so a holistic routine keeps its place once the lake quiets down.
Thomas Hansford established Somerset in 1798, and the name came from Somerset County in New Jersey, where a number of the early settlers had lived. It became the seat of Pulaski County in 1801 and a city in 1887. The Civil War came close: the Battle of Mill Springs was fought in January 1862 about eight miles west at Logan's Crossroads. The change that made the modern town was Lake Cumberland, completed in 1950, which turned a quiet farming county into a recreation economy; by 2013 the lake was generating something in the order of a hundred and fifty million dollars a year.
