Prismatic sends distance Reiki and mailed flower essences to the growing community of Bowie.
Bowie grew from a railroad town into one of Prince George's County's largest cities, a family-centered place with generous parkland and a proud, community-first spirit.
Commuters here split three ways, toward Washington, Baltimore and Annapolis, which leaves weeknights tighter than the mileage suggests. A session held at a distance removes the fourth drive. Blends and sprays are mixed to order in Michigan and posted, arriving whenever the day finally slows.
Ben Plumb named the settlement Huntington City in 1870, and it was rechartered as Bowie in 1880 for Oden Bowie, governor of Maryland and head of the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad, then incorporated in 1882. Belair Mansion dates from about 1745 and was bought by the banker James T. Woodward in 1898. The Belair Stud that went with it was one of the premier racing stables of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s under William Woodward Sr., and it closed in 1957. Bowie State University has been open since 1865 and is the oldest historically Black university in Maryland.
