Semester rhythms at the University of Tennessee move a great many people in and out of Knoxville each year, and a practice you can carry with you matters when the address keeps changing. Attunement materials are yours to keep once they are sent, and a distance session holds steady whether you are near Market Square or back home for the summer.
James White and James Connor built White's Fort here in 1786, and in 1791 William Blount chose the site for his territorial capital and named it for Henry Knox, then Secretary of War and Blount's immediate superior. Knoxville served as the state capital from statehood in 1796 until 1817. The Tennessee River itself begins in the southeastern part of the city, where the Holston and the French Broad meet. The 1982 World's Fair drew eleven million people, and the Sunsphere it left behind, 266 feet of steel truss under a gold glass globe, still marks the skyline.
