Named for the clear waters where the Eau Claire and Chippewa rivers meet, this Chippewa Valley hub anchors a lively arts and music culture around Phoenix Park and UW-Eau Claire, alongside a widening community of holistic and wellness practitioners.
Half Moon Lake curls around Carson Park, and the river trails there stay quiet from the first snow until the thaw. Distance Reiki reaches you at home with no drive at either end, whatever the plows have managed. Attunement materials are digital and stay yours permanently once they arrive.
The name is French for clear water, from the point where the Eau Claire runs into the muddier Chippewa, and the story locals tell is of a French party saying voici l'eau claire on seeing it. Sawmills built the town in the late nineteenth century, the same lumber boom that ran up and down the Chippewa valley. The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire was established in 1916 as the local economy moved off timber. More recently Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, who was born here and still lives here, co-founded the Eaux Claires festival with Aaron Dessner.
