Elemental Reiki was created by Rebecca Doolin, who used its symbols for hands-on healing from her own energies for years before she came to Usui Reiki, and then, once attuned to Usui Master level, recognised that the system would work as a Reiki system in its own right. It employs symbols drawn from Goddess, elemental and pagan symbology, and the manual says the Reiki energy harmonises with the frequency of the Goddess so as to work in accordance with Wiccan tradition. There are eight symbols.
Five are elemental: Spirit, drawn as the pentacle, the star within a circle, representing the oneness of the universe with humanity and the endless cycle of life, death and rebirth; Water, two inverted triangles one inside the other, for love, emotion, nurturing and balance in times of change; Fire, the lightning bolt of creation, for strength, power and energy; Air, three squiggly lines for the breath of life, for communication, new ideas and freshness; and Earth, the spiral of the Goddess, for the mother and the grounding aspect in all of us.
Three more the founder calls the power or spiritual symbols, given to her from Spirit: Comfort for the throat and heart chakras, Growth for the lower three chakras, and Eternal Love for the sixth and seventh. Usui Masters receive one attunement; those who are not receive two, with the power symbols last.
What this attunement is intended to support:
- It is traditionally used to support balance across the seven chakras, with specific symbols assigned to specific chakra groups.
- It offers Earth as a settling symbol for chakras that are spinning too fast or are too open.
- It offers Comfort for the throat and heart, which the founder describes as giving comfort in grief and clearing what the heart is holding.
- It offers Growth for the lower three chakras, to build self-esteem and confidence in your own abilities.
- It offers Eternal Love for the crown and third eye, to open a sense of oneness and divine love.
- It brings Reiki and Goddess, elemental and pagan symbology together in one practice for those who work in that tradition.
What you receive:
- The Elemental Reiki manual with all eight symbols drawn and explained.
- One attunement for Usui Masters, or two attunements for those who are not, with the power symbols given last.
- A chakra awakening meditation and full hands-on and self session sequences.
Who this is for:
- Reiki practitioners who follow a pagan, Wiccan or Goddess-centred path.
- Practitioners who want elemental symbols with clear chakra assignments.
- People who like a system whose founder used it personally for years before formalising it.
How it is used:
In a session, draw each of the five elemental symbols over the person's body, scan the aura, and apply the appropriate elemental symbol wherever the field feels troubled. Then draw the three spiritual symbols over each of the seven chakras, working from the crown down to the root, and finish by opening the hands like a book to place Comfort, Growth and Eternal Love on the palms before sealing the aura closed like a curtain. The same sequence works for self sessions, and the manual notes that Elemental Reiki needs no distance symbol, since clapping carries that function within the system.
