A historic Western-Maryland town drawn to farm-fresh living and natural wellness.
Downtown's clustered spires and the Carroll Creek promenade give this city a walkable calm that an I-270 commute can undo by evening. Custom blends are mixed by hand in Michigan and posted to your door, which many people find gentler than fitting in one more errand after the drive home.
Daniel Dulany laid out what was first called Frederick Town by 1745, and the sources still argue over whether the name honors Frederick Calvert, sixth Baron Baltimore, Frederick Louis the Prince of Wales, or Frederick the Great. In July 1864 Confederate troops under Jubal Early extracted a ransom of $200,000 from the citizens in exchange for not burning the place, on the way to the Battle of Monocacy. John Greenleaf Whittier's poem about Barbara Fritchie gave the town the line about the clustered spires of Frederick standing green-walled by the hills of Maryland. Those spires are still on the city seal.
