The original manor covered what is now Scarsdale, Mamaroneck, Harrison and part of North Castle. The New York and Harlem Railroad connected the village to the city in 1846 and made it an express stop in 1877, which is when the suburb really began. The nonpartisan system for choosing its trustees dates to 1911.
